The Defense Minister held wide-ranging discussions with the Army Commanders at a forward location in Gangtok, Sikkim on all aspects of the prevailing security scenario, situation along the borders and hinterland and challenges faced by the present security apparatus. This conference of Army Commanders started on October 10 in hybrid format. The holding of the senior commanders' conference at a forward military location underlines the Indian Army's focus on ground level realities. The conference also focused on issues related to military organizational restructuring, logistics, administration and human resource management.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was also supposed to attend the Indian Military Commanders' Conference for the second day today but due to bad weather in Gangtok, he could not reach there, hence the Defense Minister gave his address in virtual mode from the military establishment in Sukuna. He also virtually addressed the inauguration ceremony of the renovated 'Prerna Sthal' in Gangtok. During the discussion with the Commanders on 'Security Dynamics in the Region: Challenges and Ways to Address It', the Defense Minister reiterated the faith of the entire nation in the Indian Army and said that it is one of the most trusted and inspiring organizations of the country. He also highlighted the important role of the Army in guarding the country's borders and fighting terrorism besides providing assistance to the civil administration at any time.
The Defense Minister expressed full confidence in the Army to deal with any contingency on the current situation on the country's northern border but also said that talks will continue at all levels for a peaceful solution. The Defense Minister appreciated the efforts of the Border Roads Organization (BRO) which, working under difficult conditions, has tremendously improved road communications on the western and northern borders and this improvement should continue. Rajnath Singh praised the role of the Indian Army in tackling cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and said that proxy war is still going on from the enemy side. He also appreciated the better coordination between CAPFs, police forces and the Army in dealing with the menace of terrorism.
He concluded his speech by saying that issues related to defense diplomacy, indigenization, information warfare, defense infrastructure and army modernization should always be considered at such a forum. War preparation should be a continuous process and we should always be prepared to deal with unexpected situations that may arise at any time. We must always strengthen our warfare skills and weapons technology, so that we can operate effectively when needed. The nation is proud of its Army and the Government is committed to supporting the Army in moving forward with reforms and capability modernisation.
