Russia's Erika Andreeva defeated her younger sister Mira Andreeva in her first career match in women's singles at the Wuhan Open tennis tournament. The last time Williams sisters Serena and Venus met each other as sisters was at the Kentucky Open played in August 2020.

Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qianwen of China defeated Canada's Laila Fernandez 5-7, 6-3, 6-0. With this, she achieved the feat of becoming the first female Chinese player to achieve 40 wins in a single year. Li Na had earlier achieved this feat in 2013. Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova lost to world number 102 Hayley Baptiste 6-3, 7-5.
