Chandigarh : Punjab and Haryana High Court, while hearing the petition of Punjabi University Teachers Association (PUTA), directed the Central Government, Punjab Government, Chancellor of the University and Dr. A notice has been issued to Arvind and his reply has been sought.
Poota alleges that Dr. Arvind is not eligible for the post of VC of Punjabi University and does not satisfy the eligibility criteria. To be appointed VC of a university, one must have ten years of experience, of which four years of experience is required as an associate professor. Dr. Arvind has less than three years of experience on the post of Associate Professor, hence a request has been made to the High Court to cancel his appointment.
According to the petition, he was appointed to the post of Associate Professor and Professor in IISR (Indian Institute of Sciences Education and Research), Mohali, in violation of the rules. In this regard, inquiry committees were formed by the Ministry of Education of the Government of India, after which the report was sent to the Central Government. On this basis, the appointment of Arvind as Dr. Associate Professor and Professor has not been approved. After hearing all the parties, the High Court has issued notice to all the defendants for April 10 and sought their reply. It may be noted that in April 2021, the state government has appointed Dr. from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali. Arvind was appointed Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University. Earlier, IAS officer Ravneet Kaur was serving as the acting Vice Chancellor of the university. Arvind is a Professor of Physics and received his master's degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1990.
