New Delhi: Ratan Tata, former chairman of Tata Sons, died on the night of 9 October. He breathed his last at the age of 86 at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. The country will always remember the work done by him. As simple as he was, he was equally strong from within. If he decided to do something, he would die only after completing it. One such story is the sale of Jaguar Land Rover by Ford Company. Let us know about it-
Passenger car division was about to be sold
This incident dates back to the 90s, when Ratan Tata was the chairman of Tata Sons. Under his leadership, Tata Motors launched its car Tata Indica. This car became very popular among the people but the sales of Tata cars were not according to the thinking of Ratan Tata. Due to poor customer response to the Tata Indica and continuously increasing losses, Ratan Tata decided to sell the passenger car division in the year 1999.
Ford Motors chairman was insulted
In the year 1999, when Ratan Tata along with his team went to the office of Ford Motor Company in the American city of Detroit. There Ratan Tata met the company's chairman Bill Ford for about 3 hours. Meanwhile, Ratan Tata had to face insult. Ford insulted him by saying that you don't know anything, why did you start a passenger car division? It would be a great favor to you if I make this deal.
This decision was taken after the meeting
As we told you above, as simple as Ratan Tata looked from outside, he was as strong from inside. Ratan Tata did not say anything during the meeting with Bill Ford. Meanwhile, he took a big decision in his mind. After this he postponed the decision to sell his business and returned to India and focused his entire attention on taking Tata Motors to new heights.
This is how he took revenge for the insult
About 9 years after meeting Ford, i.e. in 2008, the situation became such that the Ford company was on the verge of being sold. Ford's subsidiaries Jaguar and Land Rover were on the verge of bankruptcy following the 2008 recession. At that time Tata Motors had purchased both these companies. After this deal, Bill Ford thanked Ratan Tata and also said that you have done us a great favor.
