drinking tea outside It's like compromising with health. Almost everyone knows this. However, getting tea in paper cups instead of plastic cups brought some relief. Because paper does not contain any chemicals that can make the body a victim of serious diseases, the possibility of which is higher in plastic cups and utensils.
But Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur A recent study has shown that drinking tea in disposable paper cups is as dangerous to health as drinking it in plastic cups. These cups, which are often thrown away after one use, contain plastic particles that release chemicals when exposed to heat, the study said.
Objectives of the study
The main objective of this study was to understand whether disposable paper cups leak plastic when they come in contact with tea or other hot liquids. The study researchers analyzed different types of paper cups and measured the amount of plastic material inside them.
plastic starts leaking
The researchers found that most disposable paper cups have some kind of plastic coating that makes the cups waterproof. When these cups come in contact with hot beverages, this plastic slowly starts leaking. As a result, the amount of microplastics in tea or other hot beverages increases.
Poisonous hot tea will be ready in 15 minutes
Sudha Goyal, Assistant Professor and Head of Studies at the Indian Institute of Technology says hot in paper cup coffee or tea Within 15 minutes of drinking, the microplastic layer on the cup gets damaged and 25,000 micron sized particles are released into the hot drink.
Why are microplastics toxic to the body?
According to studies, consumption of these microplastics can cause many life-threatening health problems. These include hormonal imbalance, decreased immune system, and increased risk of certain types of cancer.
