The theme of World Post Day this year is '150 years of enabling communications and empowering people across countries'. World Post Day was celebrated in a very unique way on Wednesday in the tourism state of Uttarakhand.
World Post Day is meant to remind people how postal services became easier for everyone, when countries around the world finally reached an agreement that changed everything about the way mail is moved. Postal services have helped to change the way people communicate with each other to a great extent. Before the digital age, people had great difficulty in sending letters and packages to each other. From the post office structures built during the British era to the attractive postal buildings of India, they all reflect the rich cultural heritage associated with the postal services.
10 km walk relay 'postathon' program launched
Chief Postmaster General Uttarakhand celebrated World Postal Day in Uttarakhand division by planting saplings under the 'One Tree in the Name of Mother' campaign on Wednesday in Dehradun GPO premises. Also launched the 10 km walk relay 'Postathon' program of postal employees. During this, Anusuya Prasad, Director Postal Services of Uttarakhand Postal Circle was also present.
National Postal Week will be celebrated till October 11
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Chief Postmaster General Shashi Shalini Kujur, at the Uttarakhand Postal Circle Auditorium, gave information about various activities to be carried out during the National Postal Week. He informed that National Postal Week is being celebrated from 7th to 11th October. Mail and Parcel Day was celebrated on 7th October and Philately Day was celebrated on 8th October. Chief Postmaster General Shashi Shalini Kujur said that Antyodaya Day will be celebrated on 10th October and Financial Empowerment Day will be celebrated on 11th October.
Purpose of World Post Day
The Chief Postmaster General said that the objective of World Postal Day is to create awareness about the role of the Postal Department in the everyday lives of the general public and businessmen. Also to tell about their contribution to global social and economic development.
Enumerated achievements of Uttarakhand circle
Regarding financial empowerment, the Chief Postmaster General said that post offices are providing financial services to the remote people through various small schemes. For women empowerment, one thousand to two lakh rupees can be invested under the Mahila Samman Bachat Patra Scheme starting from April 1, 2023. In this, 7.5 percent interest is given for two years. Till now 90 thousand accounts have been opened in Uttarakhand postal circle. Apart from this, 2.70 lakh accounts of savings bank were opened and revenue of Rs 103 crore was received.
Regarding Post Office Export Centre, the Chief Postmaster General said that at present a total of 18 Post Office Export Centers are operating in all 13 districts including Dehradun IBC in Uttarakhand Postal Circle. These include the first Post Office Export Center of Uttarakhand Postal Circle which was opened in the year 2022 at Roorkee Head Post Office. From the year 2022 till now, the circle has received a revenue of approximately Rs 1.2 crore from the Post Office Export Centre.
Giving information about the performance of the circle under Philately, the Chief Postmaster General said that in the year 2023-24, Uttarakhand circle had issued special covers on Jageshwar Dham and Katarmal Sun Temple under the district level philatelic exhibition 'Almorapacks' organized in Almora division. . Apart from this, special covers on Moonj grass, Bhoj patra and Pauna dance were also released to show the importance of tribal products.
Apart from this, under the district level philatelic exhibition 'Chamolipacks' organized in Chamoli division this year, special covers on Gopinath Temple and Vasudhara Falls and permanent pictorial cancellations on Badrinath Tham were issued. Apart from these, special covers were released on Thuner (Dehradun Vasanthotsav), Mussoorie, Bird's Paradise (Savoy Hotel) and National Wildlife Week (Wildlife Institute of India).
Promotion of Deendayal Sparsh Yojana and Dhai Aakhar letter writing
In order to promote philatelic collection among the students, Department of Posts started Deendayal Sparsh Yojana and Dhai Akhar Letter Writing Competition to promote letter writing.
Chief Postmaster General also gave information about self-booking kiosk machine and Digipin. He informed that 464640 bottles of Ganga water have been supplied in the year 2023-24. So far 270000 bottles have been supplied in this year 2024-25. Apart from these, 68385 passports have been issued in the year 2023-24 and so far 20922 passports have been issued in the year 2024-25 through the six POPSK centers of the circle.
Chief Postmaster General informed about PLI and RPLI that 6614 new PLI policies were opened in the year 2023-24. A premium of Rs 137.65 crore was earned from these. So far this year, 5110 new PLI policies have been opened. A premium of Rs 71.98 crore has been earned from these. Apart from this, 13192 new RPLI policies were opened in the year 2023-24, from which premium of Rs 97.90 crore was earned. So far this year, 9945 new RPLI policies have been opened, from which premium of Rs 40.87 crore has been earned.
Regarding IPPB, the Chief Postmaster General said that 58264 premium accounts have been opened in the year 2023-24 and 24145 premium accounts have been opened so far this year. Apart from these, under General Insurance (GI), policies worth 54.12 lakh have been issued in the year 2023-24 and policies worth 69 lakh have been issued so far this year.
Renovation of post office buildings done, construction of 18 post office buildings in progress
Under the works related to post office buildings, renovation works of Dehradun GPO, Dehradun Cantt Head Post Office and Kotdwar Head Post Office buildings were done in the financial year 2023-24. Apart from these, women toilets were installed in two offices (Tanakpur Sub Post Office and Divisional Office Pauri), ramps and railings were installed in two post offices (Kotdwar Head Post Office and Haldwani Head Post Office) and Braille signage were installed in 17 departmental post offices. Under the current financial year 2024-25, construction work of mini post office buildings in five departmental vacant lands is in progress. Work is also in progress in 13 other post offices.
802 Gramin Dak Sevaks will be recruited, new list will be released for 436 posts.
He informed that for the posts of Gramin Dak Sevak, the selection list was released for 1238 posts for the year 2024. Out of these, training of 802 is going on. 436 candidates refused to join. The new list for 436 posts will be released through the online portal.
31 new post offices will be opened in Uttarakhand
The Chief Postmaster General said that this year, proposals for opening new post offices in 31 villages have been sent to the Directorate. Efforts are being made to activate the Aadhaar centers which are not active.
