Jalandhar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the new terminal of Adampur, the only civilian airport in the Doab, at 11 am on Sunday. Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia will also participate in the virtual inauguration. The virtual foundation stone of the airport's new terminal building was laid by the then Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu through video conferencing on March 7, 2019.
The then Union Minister Vijay Sampla was also present on this occasion. However, flights to Adampur New Delhi sector were started on 1 May 2018 from a passenger terminal with 75 passenger capacity constructed under make shift arrangement. Although later flights were also started from Adampur to Mumbai and Jaipur, but after the Corona period, all three flights were stopped. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the terminal building, but at present air services have not started from here. It is believed that air service will start immediately after the inauguration.
Let us tell you that Adampur Civil Airport complex is spread over about 40 acres. The new terminal is built in 6000 square feet. The new terminal will make it possible to operate two A-320 Airbus or Boeing 737 type aircraft simultaneously. If pushback technology is provided, three aircraft can be operated at the same time. The terminal has the facility to accommodate 300 passengers at a time and parking facility for about 150 large vehicles has also been provided. Conveyor belts have been arranged for the luggage of passengers. Inside the terminal there are paintings depicting Punjabi culture. Beautiful lawns have also been laid.
Invitation letter sent by airport authority
Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Som Prakash, MP Sushil Kumar Rinku, MP Harbhajan Singh, MP Balbir Singh are included in the invitation letter sent by the Airport Authority of India to attend the virtual inauguration of the Prime Minister. Seechewal, MP Ashok Mittal and Punjab Cabinet Minister Balkar Singh and Congress MLA from Adampur Assembly constituency Sukhwinder Singh Kotli. At the same time, there is no information on the invitation letter regarding Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann attending the program.
