Haridwar, 08 October (HS). Like Tihar Jail, high security barracks are also being built in Haridwar District Jail. The government has taken this decision to end gangs, extortion and drug trade run by notorious criminals lodged in various jails of Uttarakhand. High security barracks will be ready by 2025.
In the past, incidents like use of mobile, demanding extortion, ransom for murder have come to light in Haridwar, Almora and Pauri jails. To ensure that such incidents do not recur in jails, former IG Jail Pushpak Jyoti had sent this proposal to the government. After getting the green signal for the proposal, it has now been decided to build this barrack in District Jail, Haridwar. Separate barracks will be arranged in the high security barracks. From outside searching to high resolution cameras, scanners and jammers will be installed in the barracks. The jail administration has also planned to deploy forces from outside for security in the barracks. Trained staff of PAC or IRB force can be included in this.
These notorious prisoners are running gangs while in jail
Under the proposal, 50 barracks will be built for notorious criminals lodged in 11 jails of the state. At present there are 15 such notorious prisoners in the state, who are running gangs while living in jails.
