Dharamshala, 07 October (Hindustan Reporter). The state level Under-19 Major Sports Competition for girl students, which was held from October 4 to October 7 in Rait of Shahpur assembly constituency of Kangra district, concluded on Monday in the presence of Education Minister Rohit Thakur. Handball, hockey, basketball and football events were organized in the competition. Participating in the closing ceremony as the chief guest, Education Minister Rohit Thakur awarded prizes to the winning players and teams. Chief Parliamentary Secretary Urban Development and Education Ashish Butel and Deputy Chief Whip and MLA Shahpur Kewal Singh Pathania were also present in the closing ceremony.
In the competition, Bilaspur stood first and Mandi second in handball, Sirmaur was the winner and Una was runner-up in hockey, Bilaspur stood first and Hamirpur second in basketball, while Bilaspur stood first and Shimla stood second in football. In basketball, Sports Hostel Sarkaghat was the state winner, while in hockey, Sports Hostel Majra was the state winner.
634 girls from 11 districts of the state and two sports hostels, Majra and Sarkaghat, participated in the state level Under-19 Major Sports Competition for girls. Addressing the girl students, the Education Minister said that sports develop the spirit of discipline, coordination and sports spirit in our lives.
He asked the girl students to participate enthusiastically in the field of sports and bring glory to the state. During this period various cultural programs were presented by the school students. The Education Minister announced a grant of Rs 30,000 to promote cultural programs.
One and a half crore rupees given for upgradation of night school
While addressing the people present here, Education Minister Rohit Thakur said that the state government is making many serious efforts to strengthen the education system in the state. He said that in view of this, the government has decided to open a Rajiv Gandhi Model Day-Boarding School in every assembly constituency. Rohit Thakur said that out of the 17 areas where model day-boarding schools are proposed to be opened by the government in the first phase, seven are in Kangra district. Rohit Thakur said that Government Senior Secondary School Rait of Shahpur assembly constituency will also be developed on similar lines. He announced an initial donation of Rs 1.5 crore for this. He said that this amount is being given in the first phase for the upgradation of Raith School. After this amount is spent, more funds will be made available and the work will be accelerated with time.
