An important information has come to light for the students studying in Canada. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is going to implement new rules for the Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) program starting November 1, 2024. These changes establish stricter eligibility criteria for applicants, primarily consisting of language proficiency, restrictions on field of study, and certification requirements.
Major Updates to PGWP Eligibility Requirements
These are the language proficiency standards for different types of study programs
University bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees: CLB 7 (English) or NCLC 7 (French)
Other university programs: CLB 7 (English) or NCLC 7 (French) in all skills.
College programs and other types: CLB 5 (English) or NCLC 5 (French)
restrictions on study area
There will be no restriction on the field of study for Bachelor's, Masters' and Doctoral graduate degrees.
Only other university programs, college programs, and other types of graduate students should be eligible.
If you apply before 1 November 2024
University bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees: at least CLB 7 (English) or NCLC 7 (French)
Other university programs: Minimum of CLB 7 (English) or NCLC 7 (French) in all 4 areas
College programs and other types: Minimum of CLB 5 (English) or NCLC 5 (French) in all 4 areas
If you apply on or after November 1, 2024
University Bachelor's, Masters' and Doctoral degrees: minimum of CLB 7 (English) or NCLC 7 (French) in all 4 areas and no restrictions on field of study.
Other University Programs: Minimum of CLB 7 (English) or NCLC 7 (French) in all 4 areas and a bachelor's degree in an eligible field is required.
College Programs and Other Types: Minimum of CLB 5 (English) or NCLC 5 (French) in all 4 areas and a bachelor's degree in an eligible field is required.
long term business
If you want to work in these fields in Canada, you must graduate from a business-related program with a long-term shortage. These areas are given in 5 groups below.
