Protestors surrounded the police station in Amravati, Maharashtra. Meanwhile, some miscreants pelted stones. Heavy police force has been deployed at the incident site. The situation is tense but the police is under control.

There has been a huge uproar in Amravati, Maharashtra. People from the protesting minority community pelted stones at Nagpuri Gate Police Station. Due to which many policemen have been injured. Many police vehicles and bikes were damaged in stone pelting. The police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the crowd. Apart from this, the police also fired tear gas shells. Seeing the tension at the spot, the Police Commissioner issued an order to ban the gathering under Section 163 of the BNS in Nagpuri Gate police station area.

According to the information, tension has increased in Amravati after the controversial statement given by UP Mahant Yati Narasimhanand Maharaj against the Muslim religious leader. On Saturday, people of the minority community associated with the Social Democratic Party of India surrounded the police station and demonstrated at Nagpuri Gate police station, demanding action. The situation worsened when some miscreants pelted stones at the police station and the policemen present there. 8 to 10 policemen were injured in this incident. Four-five big police vehicles and 10 to 15 motorcycles were vandalized and damaged.

The commotion continued for an hour

Police called additional forces to control the situation and lathicharged the crowd. Tear gas shells were also released. The situation could be brought under control after about an hour of uproar. In view of the increasing tension in Nagpuri Gate area, the police has imposed a blockade. Police Commissioner Naveen Chandra Reddy issued an order saying that the situation is under control, but police force has been deployed as a precautionary measure.

Police will take strict action against the accused

After the incident, the police has started identifying the anti-social elements who indulged in stone pelting and vandalism. Teams of all chief police officers and rural SP of Amravati have also been deployed at the spot. Apart from this, two platoons of SRP have also been deployed for security reasons. At present there is tense peace in and around Nagpuri Gate. Police Commissioner Naveen Chandra Reddy said that strict action will be taken against the culprits of the incident and anti-social elements who are spoiling the atmosphere will be arrested soon.
