During the three-year tenure of the Dhami government, 519 new roads and 195 bridges with a total length of 1481 km were constructed under the scheme, while 61 rural roads already constructed with a length of 159 km were also upgraded. A total of Rs 2310 crore was spent on the construction of these roads and bridges. During this period, the movement of villagers has been facilitated by connecting 35 settlements with a population of more than 250 by road. The work of the first and second phases under the scheme has now reached the stage of completion. Now, approval of Rs 1824 crore has been received from the Government of India for the upgradation of previously constructed roads under PMGSY Third Phase. Under this, a total of 2288 km long roads are to be upgraded. Apart from this, approval of Rs 119 crore has been obtained from the Government of India to connect eight road-deprived habitations under the Vibrant Village Scheme. After this, only 1796 settlements with population of less than 150 are left in the state, where roads are not accessible.

Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana was started in December 2000 by the then Atal Bihari Vajpayee government of the Centre. The main objective of the scheme is to connect villages through connectivity routes. This scheme is 90 percent centrally funded. The remaining ten percent contribution is made by the state government. Since the inception of the scheme, a total of 2329 roads and 312 bridges have been completed in Uttarakhand. A total of Rs 10183 crore has been spent on the scheme so far. As a result, 1846 settlements with a population of more than 250 have been connected by road.
