New Delhi: Delhi Police has summoned YouTuber Elvis Yadav and comedian Bharti Singh and three others in connection with the Rs 500 crore fraud app-based scam.
Police received over 500 complaints alleging that several social media influencers and YouTubers promoted Hibox mobile app on their pages and lured people to invest through the app.
Police said that the main accused in the scam, Shivaram (30 years), resident of Chennai, has been arrested. According to the complaint, social media influencers and YouTubers including Saurav Joshi, Abhishek Malhan, Purav Jha, Elvish Yadav, Bharti Singh, Harsh Limbachiya, Lakshya Chaudhary, Adarsh Singh, Amit and Dilraj Singh Rawat promoted the app and invited people to invest. Deputy Commissioner of Police (IFSO Special Cell) Hemant Tiwari said that Highbox is a mobile application. Which was part of a well-planned scam.
The DCP said the app had promised the accused a guaranteed return of one to five per cent per day. Which is equal to 30 to 90 percent in a month.
This app was launched in February 2024. More than 30,000 people invested in this app. Investors got good returns in the first five months.
However, from July onwards the app stopped payments citing technical glitches, legal aspects, GST etc. DCP Tiwari told that this company had disappeared after closing its office in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Police said mastermind Shivaram has been arrested and Rs 18 crore has been seized from his four different bank accounts.
