SIM card fraud: The central government has been giving free ration to the poor for a long time. The government claims that about 80 crore people are benefiting from this scheme. However, now some fraudsters are also taking advantage of this scheme.
A case of cyber fraud came to light
A case has come to light in Uttarakhand, where a gang of thugs used to collect documents of people and use them to buy new SIM cards. All these fake SIM cards were used to commit cyber fraud on people. Recently this scam has been exposed.
Fraud of more than one crore
Home Ministry and Uttarakhand Police have busted this entire gang. More than Rs 1 crore has been defrauded through this SIM card fraud. Therefore it can be said that thousands of people have become victims of this scam. The method of purchasing SIM card in this new type of fraud is also very interesting.
This is how SIM cards were available
ID or photograph is required to purchase a new SIM card. Also, a total of 9 SIMs can be purchased on one person's Aadhar card. Therefore, so that the business of these thugs does not slow down, the thugs started going to people's homes and taking ID cards from them in the name of government schemes. For this, people were told that they would be given free ration, for which their Aadhar cards and photographs were also taken. Biometrics of some people were also taken.
Thousands of SIM cards were sent abroad
After purchasing the SIM card, it is activated and then the bid is placed. Cyber thugs from China to Malaysia used to buy these SIMs.
Police said that till now more than 20 thousand SIM cards have been sent abroad. In return, the people of this gang had printed lakhs of rupees. Police have recovered many SIM cards, biometric devices and mobile phones from these accused.
