ICC bans Sri Lankan cricketer Praveen Jayawickrama: The ICC has banned Sri Lankan spinner Praveen Jayawickrama for one year on corruption charges. He will be suspended for six months during the proceedings. This ban has been imposed on Jayawickrama for violating Section 2.4.7 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.

What is section 2.4.7?

Obstructing or delaying any ongoing investigation by the ACU, including provisions against concealing, tampering or destroying any document or other information.

Jayawickrama's career

Jayawickrama last represented Sri Lanka in 2022. He has played five Tests, five ODIs and five T20 International matches. A total of 32 wickets have been taken in these 15 matches.

What was the allegation?

The allegations were made against Jayawickrama in relation to international cricket and the Lanka Premier League. In which he violated Section 1.7.4.1 and 1.8.1 of the Anti-Corruption Code in the contract with Sri Lanka Cricket.

Career ends in three years

Praveen Jayawickrama played his first match for Sri Lanka in 2021 against Australia. In this debut test match played in Bangladesh, he surprised the cricket world by taking 11 wickets. He broke all the records of debutants in Test cricket. But he failed to maintain this form.
