What is the scientific significance behind fasting during Navratri?
According to Devi Bhagwat and Markandeya Purana, there is a tradition of worshiping the Goddess and fasting for nine days of Navratri. From an Ayurvedic point of view, the weather changes during these days, which causes digestive disturbances. To keep it organized, the tradition of observing fast has been started. Shardiya Navratri marks the beginning of winter, hence light diet is taken during this period. During this period the digestion process is slower than on normal days. Due to which a person feels laziness and lethargy. For this reason it is said that even if you do not keep fast during Navratri, your food should be light.
There is neither cold nor heat during Shardiya Navratri of Aso month. Nature is very favorable at this time. The impact of changing nature and climate is felt both personally and externally. Personally, this is a time for meditation and spiritual practice, while the heat in the outside world subsides during this period. In science it is called the principle of thermodynamics.
