Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMS), one of the oldest medical colleges in the country, was established in 1900. This medical college, affiliated to Dr. MGR Medical University of Tamil Nadu, has more than 8 thousand employees. It has two campuses. The main campus is in the heart of Vellore city while the other is at Bagayam, about seven kilometers away from the main campus. Ranked third in India in the National Institutional Ranking Framework Medical Rankings 2023, the college offers 57 post graduate diploma and degree medical courses including MS, MD, DM, MCh, Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, apart from MBBS. The college also offers 52 fellowship courses.
Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS)
Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences is the first rural medical college in India. Located in Sevagram, Maharashtra, this institute is managed by Kasturba Health Society. Every year 100 MBBS students take admission in the institute. Half of them come from the state of Maharashtra and the other half from the rest of India. The college also offers MBBS as well as MD and MS degrees and diploma courses in Medicine and Surgery. The medical college was started in 1969. The college was affiliated with Nagpur University until 1997, but since 1998 it is now affiliated with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik.
Trichy SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Tiruchirappalli
Established in 2008 by the SRM Group of Educational Institutes, Trichy SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Center is one of the prestigious institutes in the country. S.D.M. College of Medical Sciences and Hospital, Dharwad
Located in Manjushrinagar, Karnataka, SDM College of Medical Sciences is built near Navalur Railway Station between Hubli and Dharwad. Established in 2003, it is one of the largest private medical colleges in the country and the largest in Karnataka. Affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangalore, this college offers MBBS as well as diploma in courses like para-medical, nursing, physiotherapy and naturopathy.
