Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday upheld the 2017 verdict of a Kolhapur court that sentenced a man to death for killing his mother and then eating her body parts.

A division bench of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Prithviraj Chavan upheld the death sentence of convict Sunil Kuchkorvi and said there was no possibility of commutation. This is a case of cannibalism and falls in the category of cruelty. The High Court said the convict not only murdered his mother, but also removed her body parts – brain, heart, kidneys and intestines – and cooked them in a pan.

The High Court said that there is no possibility of the convict reforming as he is involved in cannibalistic activity. If he is sentenced to life imprisonment then he can commit any such crime in jail. Convict Kuchkorvi was informed about the decision through video conference.
What is the whole matter?
Let us tell you that Sunil Kuchkorvi had brutally murdered his 63-year-old mother Yalma Rama Kuchkorvi at their home in Kolhapur city on 28 August 2017. Later he cut the body into pieces and roasted some of its body parts on a pan and ate them. The deceased had refused to give money to the accused to buy liquor. After which he brutally murdered his mother. In 2021, Kolhapur Court sentenced Sunil Kuchkorvi to death. Currently he is lodged in Yerwada Jail (Pune).
