Bombay High Court: The Bombay High Court has upheld the death sentence awarded to a man convicted of killing his mother and eating her body parts, saying it was a case of cannibalism.
a very rare case
The convict appealed to the Bombay High Court challenging the order of the Kolhapur District Court. The case, where a bench of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Prithviraj Chavan delivered the verdict, is extremely rare. In which no improvement was seen in the accused. Therefore he cannot receive any punishment less than death.
What was the incident?
Seven years ago, Sunil brutally murdered his 63-year-old mother Yallama Ram Kuchkorvi and cut her body into pieces and cooked it. The alleged accused was about to cook his mother's heart when the police arrested him. The accused stated that the reason behind the murder was that his mother did not give him money to drink alcohol.
Describing the story of the brutal murder of the mother and the manner in which the body was cut into pieces and eaten as a gruesome incident, the Division Bench of the High Court said that this is clearly a case of the rarest category. The convict not only murdered his mother but also cooked and ate her body parts, which is a heinous crime. Apart from this, looking at the tendencies of criminals, it does not seem that there has been any improvement. So even if his sentence is commuted to life imprisonment, he can still commit such crimes.
This decision was taken so that other people in jail do not become victims of this.
According to the report, the Division Bench had given a stern warning that if the convict is sentenced to life imprisonment, he may commit the same crime inside the jail. Kuchkorvi is currently lodged in Pune's Yerwada jail. He was presented in the court through video conferencing.
