New Delhi, 30 September (HIST). Jagdish Tytler, accused in the Pul Bangash Gurdwara violence case related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, has approached the Delhi High Court against the trial court's order framing charges. Tytler has challenged the decision of Rouse Avenue Court in the High Court.

On August 20, the court had ordered framing of charges against Tytler. The court had ordered framing of charges against Tytler under sections 147, 149, 153A, 188, 109, 295, 380, 302 of the Indian Penal Code. On September 13, Jagdish Tytler had denied the allegations leveled against him and said that he would face trial.

During the hearing in Rouse Avenue Court, lawyer Manu Sharma, appearing for Jagdish Tytler, had said that CBI had filed two closure reports in this case. He said that in 2009, a charge sheet was filed against co-accused Suresh Kumar Panewala, in which the trial court acquitted him. Manu Sharma said that there were no witnesses in this case from 1984 to 2022-23. How can witnesses produced after such a long time be trusted?

In this case, on August 4, 2023, the Sessions Court of Rouse Avenue Court had granted anticipatory bail to Jagdish Tytler. The court had taken cognizance of the charge sheet filed against Jagdish Tytler on July 26, 2023. CBI has booked Tytler in this case under sections 147, 109 and 302 of the Indian Penal Code. According to CBI, Tytler had instigated the mob, after which the mob set fire to the Gurudwara of Pul Bangash.
