Kolkata, 30 September (HIST). The Eastern Command of the Indian Army in Manipur has recovered a large quantity of weapons and explosive devices (IEDs) since September 25. In a statement issued by the Army on Monday from Fort William headquarters in Kolkata, it was said that 23 weapons and several IEDs filled with 52.5 kg of explosives have been recovered from different areas. These operations were carried out by the Army and Assam Rifles along with Manipur Police and other security forces.

According to the Army, during intelligence-based operations conducted on September 25, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered 7.62 mm self-loading rifle (SLR), two 9 mm carbines, from the pine forest area of ​​Tekcham, Manning and Phanom villages of Thoubal district. Nine mm pistol, 0.32 mm pistol, grenade, ammunition and other war material recovered.

An IED filled with 10 kg of explosive was also discovered under State Highway-18 in Saram area of ​​the same district, which was defused in time, thereby averting a major accident.

On September 27, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered two 0.303 bolt-action rifles, nine mm pistol, grenades, ammunition and other war material from Loiching Ridge in Kangpokpi district during another operation. The next day, security forces continued their operation and recovered one 0.303 sniper rifle, 0.303 bolt-action rifle, two 9 mm pistols, grenades and ammunition from Igejang Ridge.

On September 25 itself, the Army, Manipur Police and Border Security Force (BSF) conducted a raid in Churachandpur district and recovered two large long-range mortars (Pompey) and grenades. Security forces also recovered Myanmar-made pistols and single barrel guns during an operation in Songdoi on September 28.

Indian Army troops during patrolling in Imphal East district detected and defused three IEDs weighing 42.5 kg in Mafital Ridge area near Tumukhong-Hungdum Tangkhul Road. The IED was very cleverly hidden on the roadside.

In Bishnupur district, the Army, Manipur Police and CRPF conducted search operations in Foisanfai village and general area of ​​Kwakta and recovered two Pompei (indigenous mortars), two modified carbine sub-machine guns, one single barrel rifle, three pistols, one grenade, ammunition. Gunpowder and other war material recovered.
