The Odisha government has transferred over 50 senior IPS officers across the state following a high-profile sexual harassment case. According to sources, the irregularities revealed in the investigation of this case are being considered as the main reason behind this major transfer of police.
Five police officers suspended
The most prominent transfer includes the transfer of ADGP Arun Bothra, who was earlier handling some investigative aspects of the case. Vinaytosh Mishra, who was earlier the director of the state Crime Records Bureau, has been appointed as the new chief of CID. The change of leadership is seen as an important step to ensure a fair and independent investigation into the case, especially when questions were raised over police misconduct.
Forensic polygraph test conducted in Gandhinagar
Along with the reshuffle, five police officers accused of negligence during the preliminary investigation have also been suspended. These officers have been taken to Gandhinagar, Gujarat for forensic polygraph test along with the CID investigation team. This step has been taken to prevent their possible negligence or involvement in the case, so that justice can be ensured.
What was the matter?
Bharatpur police station in Bhubaneswar is dealing with the alleged sexual harassment of a woman, who is the fiancee of an Army officer. The army immediately intervened after the involvement of one of its employees came to light. After the intervention of the army, the matter was handed over to SDJM. The case is still under investigation and the Army is monitoring the investigation to ensure its transparency.
According to sources, the Army is actively monitoring the progress of the case. Considering the sensitivity of the matter, this role of the army is considered very important, because a person associated with the army is involved in it.
