The University Grants Commission (UGC) has written a letter to all universities and colleges directing them to make environmental education mandatory for students studying at the undergraduate level. The Commission has also released a curriculum for environmental education designed for the undergraduate level. It covers local issues related to the environment, pollution, its threats and related laws, as well as the harmony between man and the environment. The Commission has prepared this curriculum after making environmental education mandatory for all students in the new National Education Policy. Under the credit framework prepared under this, students will have to study for at least 30 hours for one credit mark.
