Katihar, 28 September (HS). The flood situation in Bihar is becoming serious, especially in North Bihar. The Principal Secretary of the Water Resources Department has ordered the District Magistrates of Katihar, Supaul, Saharsa, Madhepura, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Khagaria and Bhagalpur to remain alert.
There is a possibility of unexpected rise in water level due to heavy rainfall in Nepal Division in Kosi River Basin. Veerpur Barrage is likely to release 6,81,639 lakh cusecs of water at 12 noon on September 28, which may create an emergency.
The Meteorological Department has also issued a warning of heavy rain in Bihar for the next four days, due to which the danger has increased further. There is a threat of flood in areas of North Bihar, especially in the areas around Kosi and Gandak rivers.
District Magistrates have been instructed to take necessary precautionary measures in view of flood disaster. Residents of the river side of the embankment are being advised to exercise caution and take necessary steps. The district administration has assured to make necessary arrangements for relief and rescue operations in the flood affected areas.
