Ranchi, March 8 (HS). Along with the Lok Sabha elections, there is intense political activity regarding the elections for two Rajya Sabha seats in the state. Voting for two Rajya Sabha seats is to be held in the state on March 21, but till now the name of the candidate has not been announced from either NDA or India. However, nomination papers have definitely been purchased from both sides.
Former JMM MLA from Gandey, Dr. Sarfaraz Ahmed and Mumbai businessman Harihar Mahapatra have definitely purchased nomination papers. In such a situation, on March 11, the last day of nomination, the picture will become clear as to how many and which candidates are in the fray. If two candidates are in the election fray, then in such a situation there will be no voting.
In this regard, Assembly Secretary cum Election Officer Syed Javed Haider said that today is a holiday due to Mahashivratri. Similarly, due to Saturday and Sunday being holidays, nominations will not be filed. In such a situation, nomination papers will be filed on March 11 only. Voting will take place only if there are more than two nominations. In this way, after the end of the time for withdrawal of nominations on March 14, it will be clear whether voting will take place or not.
Amidst all this, the candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections have not yet been officially announced by the party and the opposition. It is believed that Dr. Sarfaraz Ahmed will be the joint candidate of India Alliance while industrialist Harihar Mahapatra will contest as NDA candidate. According to the notification issued by the Election Commission on March 4, after filing of nomination papers till March 11, scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on March 12 while names will be withdrawn till March 14.
Rajya Sabha election formula
According to the type formula for Rajya Sabha elections, the total number of MLAs is multiplied by 100 and divided by adding one to the number of seats for which elections are to be held. After this one is added to the total number. Then the number that comes out in the end is the standard for winning. In such a situation, parties with more MLAs benefit the most. Nominated members of the Assembly do not participate in this election.
