New York: Bangladesh's interim government Prime Minister Muhammad Yunus, who had come to attend the United Nations General Assembly, was violently protested against by his own countrymen and people started waving placards that read 'Go back, leave power'. At this time, naturally, New Yorkers standing on the side of the road were comparing that on one hand, more than twenty-five thousand Indians were present to welcome Narendra Modi, on the other hand, thousands of Bangladeshis were hating the Prime Minister. Bangladesh started raising the slogan 'Go back, leave power'. Foreign embassies also noticed this.
Needless to say, Hindus are being persecuted in Bangladesh and hundreds of their temples are being destroyed.
It is also notable that Hindus were not the only protesters, many Bangladeshi Muslims also joined the protesters.
A protester participating in the protest against Yunus told reporters that 'Yunus has gained power in the country through dirty politics.' He has gained power illegally and unconstitutionally. Many people have been killed or disappeared since he took power.
Another protester said, “Why can an unelected person represent the 117 million people of Bangladesh?” He is not elected, he has been put in power by rioting students. He does not care about minorities or anyone. He is sitting in an illegal position of power.
It is well known that it was Pakistan which basically motivated the students against the government of Sheikh Hasina by 'nurturing' them and indoctrinating them with blind religious fanaticism. As a result, widespread riots broke out in the country. More than 200 people were killed in the riots. Eventually, after Sheikh Hasina resigned on 8 August, the leaders of the rioting students installed Muhammad Yunus as the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Modi is not going to meet Yunus. Foreign Minister Jaishankar will meet him. Yunus' meeting with President Biden was brief and formal.
The question against Yunus is the safety of minorities in his own country like Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Parsis etc. and 12 lakh Rohingya Muslims expelled from Myanmar and Thailand. Bangladesh is facing a headache right now because it is facing a population explosion.
