New Delhi, September 25 (HS). The problem of pollution has started increasing once again in the capital. On Wednesday, Delhi's daily average air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 235, which is considered in the poor category.
According to the 4 pm AQI bulletin provided by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's daily average air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 235 today. The sub-committee of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), constituted to monitor pollution in the capital and enforce GRAP restrictions, met on Wednesday and took stock of the situation.
The sub-committee said that Delhi's average AQI has already started showing a declining trend as it improved to 232 at 5 pm and is expected to improve further with time. The forecast from the India Meteorological Department and IITM also indicates that light rain is likely in Delhi in the coming few days, which may lead to improvement in Delhi's overall AQI to the 'moderate' category.
The Sub-Committee unanimously decided to monitor the situation for one or more days before initiating action under Phase-I of GRAP. The Sub-Committee will closely monitor the situation for further decisions. It is noteworthy that AQI between 0 to 50 is considered 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor' and 401 to 450 'severe'. If the AQI goes above 450, it is considered in the 'severe' category.
