New Delhi, September 25 (HS). During the last decade, many changes have taken place in Indian Railways like infrastructure development, technology update, modernization and operational upgrade, due to which railways have reached new heights of development. Crisil's report says that from 2016 till now, an investment of Rs 17.4 lakh crore has been made to improve the infrastructure of railways. The country's economy has also benefited a lot from the modernization of railways. During this period, railway capex has grown at the rate of 12 percent annually.
Credit rating agency Crisil has stated in its report that during the last decade, the government's focus has been on the development of tracks, trains and stations. In the development of tracks and trains, the government is working on electrification, track security, high speed and providing maximum facilities to the passengers. During this time, the government is investing on priority basis on projects like high speed rail project, track electrification and anti-collision device Kavach. Due to the infrastructure development and redevelopment projects of railways, the income of railways has also increased.
It has been told in this report that the government is paying maximum attention to the track upgradation of railways. Construction work is going on for several high-speed rail corridors in the country, for which an amount of Rs 1.08 lakh crore has been released. The construction work of 3,300 km dedicated freight corridor in the country is also in its final stage. This dedicated freight corridor is also strengthening the country's economy. If seen on the electrification front, by March 2024, more than 94 percent of the broad gauge network in the country has been electrified. Along with this, the work of gauge conversion of the track is also going on at full speed. From the year 2015-16 till now, 5,269 km of track has been converted into broad gauge network in the country. Similarly, from 2015-16 to 2023-24, 15,861 km of track has been doubled. Working towards security, till now 1,465 km of railway route has been secured with anti-collision device shield.
