The state's Sugarcane Minister Krishna Nandan Paswan said on Wednesday that for the first time in the state, Rs 12 crore 40 lakh has been sanctioned for 81 jaggery units with Bihar State Jaggery Industry Promotion and due to almost doubling of crushing capacity in the state's sugar mills, there are vast possibilities in the sugarcane industry. As a result, Bihar is currently at the fifth position in the country in sugar production and will soon be at the third position.
Giving information about the activities of the department in the press conference of the Sugarcane Industry Department organized in the communication room of the Information Building, Minister Krishna Nandan Paswan said that Bihar State Jaggery Industry Promotion Program- For the first time in the state, approval has been given for Bihar State Jaggery Industry Promotion. In the financial year 2024-25, approval of Rs 12 crore 40 lakh has been given for setting up 81 jaggery units. To bring transparency in this scheme, the process of taking applications from entrepreneurs through online portal will be started soon. For this, Cane Care Software has been developed by the department.
Minister Krishna Nandan said that the Fourth Agriculture Road Map-Sugarcane is an important cash and commercial crop of the state. Sugarcane based sugar industry has an important place among agriculture based industries. It is possible to increase the income of farmers in rural areas through sugarcane based industry. Large scale employment opportunities are available in these industries. The state government is implementing the Agriculture Road Map program for the cultivation of sugarcane and establishment of sugarcane based industries. As a result of the implementation of the Agriculture Road Map program, the production of sugar in the state was 4.51 lakh metric tonnes in the year 2006-07, which has increased to 6.87 lakh metric tonnes in the year 2023-24.
The minister said that under the session 2023-24, the sugar mills of the state have produced 68.77 lakh quintals of sugar with 10.16 percent recovery by crushing 677.20 lakh quintals of sugarcane (about 14.24 lakh quintals more than last year). Along with this, 86298.72 kilo liters of ethanol has been produced by the distillery unit associated with the sugar mills of the state. 99.34 percent of the total amount of Rs 23 billion 54 crore 80 lakh has been paid to the sugarcane farmers. 100 percent sugarcane price has been paid by all the sugar mills except Vishnu Sugar Mill, Gopalganj.
