Controversial statements of Kangana Ranaut: Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut is once again in the headlines. She has demanded the re-implementation of the 3 repealed agricultural laws. The opposition is attacking and protesting Kangana's statement. However, this is not the first time that Kangana has commented on a matter related to farmers. Three years ago, she accused women activists of sitting on dharna for money. Then she also made controversial remarks about Sikhs. This is the second incident within a month when the BJP has isolated Kangana's comments. This time too, the BJP has described Kangana's statement as her 'personal statement'.

Kangana Ranaut is a BJP MP from Mandi seat of Himachal Pradesh. She joined BJP this year. Kangana entered politics in the Lok Sabha elections and defeated Congress leader and Himachal Pradesh government minister Vikramaditya Singh. Vikramaditya is the son of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. Vikramaditya's mother Pratibha Singh has been a Congress MP from Mandi.

Kangana's controversial statement…

24 September 2024

BJP MP Kangana Ranaut on Tuesday sparked a controversy by demanding the re-implementation of the three controversial agricultural laws. Kangana said that the farmers themselves should demand the implementation of this law. I know, this statement may be controversial but all three agricultural laws should be implemented again. All three laws were beneficial for the farmers but due to the opposition of farmers' organizations in some states, the government repealed them. Farmers are the pillars of power in the development of the country. I would like to appeal to you that they want to implement the law back for their benefit.

Kangana created a controversy by saying that there is a plan to create Bangladesh-like conditions in India through the farmers' movement. She said, if our top leadership was not strong, what happened in Bangladesh would not have taken long to happen here (India). Where the farmers' movement took place, dead bodies were hanging here, rapes were happening here. The farmers had a big plan, like what happened in Bangladesh. Do you think the farmers have hatched such conspiracies? Foreign powers like China, America are working here.

However, after Kangana's statement, BJP clarified that this is not the opinion of the party. Kangana Ranaut is neither authorized nor authorised to speak on issues of party policy. BJP has instructed Kangana Ranaut not to make any such statement in future.

November 2021

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the withdrawal of three agricultural laws, Kangana called it unfortunate and blamed the farmers' movement. She said that such movements are weakening India and the farmers have ignored the interests of the country for their own interests.

February 2021

Kangana expressed her displeasure over international celebrities pop star Rihanna and Greta Thunberg tweeting in support of the farmers' movement and said that these are part of a conspiracy to defame India. She called Rihanna a 'fool' and the farmers' movement 'terrorism'. Kangana wrote, “No one is talking about this because they are not farmers, they are terrorists, who are trying to divide India so that China can take over our country.”

In fact, Rihanna shared a link to a CNN story on February 2, 2021 and wrote, “Why are we not talking about this?” She also added #FarmersProtest to this tweet.

November 2021

Kangana accused some people involved in the farmers' movement of being Khalistani terrorists. She said that a conspiracy is being hatched to divide the country and Khalistani elements are involved in it. She called it a conspiracy to break the country. Kangana wrote in an Instagram post that Khalistani terrorists are troubling the country today. But we should not forget a woman. The only woman Prime Minister who crushed them under her shoes. No matter how much trouble this country has given. She crushed them like mosquitoes at the cost of her life.. but did not let the country be divided. After this statement, anger erupted in the Sikh community. Many complaints were filed against Kangana. This statement has also increased the trouble of BJP. The Sikh community is considered an important support base of BJP.

December 2020

Kangana made a controversial comment on the elderly women protesters involved in the farmers' movement and said that these women are joining the movement by taking money. She also targeted a woman while referring to the Shaheen Bagh grandmother and said that they protest by taking Rs 100 each. After Kangana's statement, a controversy arose and an uncomfortable situation arose within the BJP.

Kangana allegedly misidentified a woman farmer from Punjab as Bilkis Bano. However, she was an 80-year-old farmer woman. In fact, a woman named Bilkis Bano had earlier made international headlines during the anti-CAA protest in Delhi's Shaheen Bagh area. Kangana shared a tweet in which she alleged that 'Shaheen Bagh Dadi' has also joined the farmers' agitation on the Delhi border over the new agricultural law. She retweeted a post with pictures of two elderly women including Bilkis Bano and wrote, 'This is the same Dadi who is in Time Magazine's list of 100 most influential people and it is available for Rs 100.'

Kangana's tweet showed an elderly woman who was walking bent but was carrying a banner of the farmers' movement. Her name was Mohinder Kaur. Later it was found out that both the women were different. After this Kangana deleted the tweet.

Kangana's statement was considered an insult to farmers and women. This year, a female constable of CISF slapped Kangana at Chandigarh airport. The female constable said, “My mother had participated in the farmers' protest and I am hurt by Kangana's statement of joining the movement by taking money.”

What is the problem for BJP?

This is the second time in a month that Kangana has made a statement on the issue related to the farmers' movement. Both times, the BJP has distanced the party from her statement. Kangana's statement has come at a time when assembly elections are about to be held in Haryana and the BJP is fighting an anti-incumbency battle there. When Kangana made the statement in August, the party had also given her a stern warning, but the new statement has given the opposition an opportunity to retaliate.
