Vigilance Bureau: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Tuesday arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Raj Kumar posted at District Tarn Taran Police Helpline No. 112 while accepting a bribe of Rs. According to the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, the arrest was made following a complaint by Raj Karan, a resident of Muradpur in Tarn Taran district.
The spokesperson further said that the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau alleging that the ASI had demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 in exchange for returning his mobile phone and saving a close associate of the complainant from a fake NDPS case.
He said that after preliminary investigation of this complaint, the team of Vigilance Bureau laid a trap and arrested the accused red handed while taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses.
The spokesperson said that during the investigation it was revealed that the said policeman was part of a 'honey trap network' which included other police officers including women and private persons. This accused, in connivance with his fellow women, used to lure unknown people and force them to take him to a hotel and later he himself used to reach the spot with his other policemen and blackmail the victims and extract huge amount of money from them.
In this regard, a case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act in the police station range of Vigilance Bureau, Amritsar.
