Kartar Tanwar lost Delhi Assembly membership: Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel has stripped Chhatarpur MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar of his membership under the anti-defection law. Officials gave this information on Tuesday. Tanwar, who was elected on an AAP ticket from Chhatarpur constituency in the 2020 assembly elections, left the party. Along with this, in July this year, another MLA Raj Kumar Anand joined the BJP.
Anand, MLA from Patel Nagar reserved constituency, resigned from the post of Social Welfare Minister in the Kejriwal government in April and also left the party. Earlier also, the Speaker had disqualified him as an MLA.
A notification issued by the Delhi Assembly Secretariat on Tuesday said that Tanwar has been disqualified by the Speaker under the Anti-Defection Act. His assembly membership has been terminated from July 10, 2024.
Joined BJP on 10 July
On July 10, Tanwar joined the BJP along with former Delhi minister Rajkumar Anand. Rajkumar Anand had already been disqualified. He was in jail when the then Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal joined the BJP.
According to the rules, the Chhatarpur assembly seat has become vacant after Tanwar's membership of the assembly ended. It is necessary to hold elections on any vacant seat within six months, but the Delhi assembly elections will be held within six months. In such a situation, there will be no by-election on this seat.
He came into the news after the income tax raids
Kartar Singh Kanwar came into the limelight when the Income Tax department raided his premises in July 2016. On 27 July, the Income Tax department team raided his farm house and office.
Joined AAP in 2014
Tanwar, who joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2014, had accused the party of autocracy while leaving the party. He said that I am sad to see the condition of Delhi. He accused the Aam Aadmi Party of being immersed in corruption. He won the Chhatarpur seat in the 2015 assembly elections. Before joining AAP, he was in the BJP. In 2007, he succeeded in winning the ward councillor election. Before starting his political journey, Tanwar was a junior engineer in the Delhi Jal Board.
