New Delhi: As India is moving towards becoming a digital India, cyber fraud is also increasing. However, the cyber wing of the Home Ministry is taking strict measures to curb 14-C cyber fraud, under which the government has blocked 6 lakh mobile phones. Also, 65,000 cyber fraud URLs have been blocked on the orders of the cyber wing of the Home Ministry.
Sources said that about 800 applications involved in cyber fraud have also been blocked. In the year 2023, NCRP (National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal) received more than one lakh complaints of investment scams. About 17,000 FIRs related to cyber fraud have been registered across the country. From January 2024 to September 2024, more than 6,000 complaints of digital arrests, 20,043 of trading scams, 62,687 of investment scams and more than 1725 of dating scams have been received.
The cyber wing of the Home Ministry had frozen 3.25 lakh accounts, debit cards in the last four months to prevent cyber fraud. These were accounts that were fraudulent. Apart from this, 3401 social media, websites, WhatsApp groups used in cyber crime have been closed. Also, Rs 2800 crore has been saved from the threat of cyber fraud in the last few years. Home Ministry has saved Rs. 8.50 lakh cyber victims from fraud.
Apart from this, to deal with cyber crimes, 14-C Wing has set up a national level coordination center to handle cases related to cyber crime across the country. Apart from this, the police of states and union territories have been alerted regarding the increasing incidents of digital arrests. Cyber commandos are trained. In the next five years, 5,000 cyber commandos will be trained and prepared.
