Mumbai: The health of Maratha community leader Manoj Jarange Patil, who has been on an indefinite fast for eight days to pressurize the government to grant reservation to Marathas under the OBC (Other Backward Classes) category, has deteriorated seriously.
People of the Maratha community appealed to Jarange Patil, who is on a fast in Sarati village in Antaravali, Jalan, to take liquids. But he has rejected this appeal.
Jarange Patil has gone on an indefinite fast since September 17. This is the sixth time he is fasting in this one year.
A medical team is stationed at the place where Jarange Patil is fasting. However, Jarange is also refusing to get treatment.
Jarang is on a fast demanding the implementation of a draft ordinance declaring the blood relatives of Marathas as Kunbis based on historical documents from the Satara, Bombay and Hyderabad Gazetteers.
After Jarange started his fast, police security arrangements have been tightened in the surrounding villages.
The remote Sarti village of Jalna has become the centre of Maratha reservation. OBC activists Laxman Hek and Navnath Waghmar are protesting against inclusion of Marathas in the OBC category. They are two km away from Antarwali Sarti. They are protesting in the remote village of Wadi Godri.
