The train will cover a distance of 7.7 km and will stop at Cargo City along with Aero City. DIAL has set a deadline to complete this project by the end of 2027.
Bidding for this project will be done in October-November
After the completion of this project, DTC buses running between the two terminals will become a thing of the past. According to sources, the company managing the airport may get the tender for this project. Delhi Airport will be the first airport in India where an air train will run. Bids for this project will be invited in October-November.
will reduce carbon emissions
In its proposal to the Civil Aviation Ministry, DIAL said, the APM system will provide fast and smooth connectivity between Terminal 1 and Terminal 3/2 passing through Aero City and Cargo City. The project will not only provide connectivity between the terminals but also provide convenience to passengers. It will also help in improving ASQ scores and reducing carbon emissions.
The central government had asked to remove 6 stoppages
Earlier, the central government had asked DIAL to remove 6 stoppages on the Air Train route as this was increasing the connectivity time. A senior official said, DIAL's proposal not only requires time extension but also requires full security at non-terminal stops.
More transit passengers at the airport
Delhi Airport is one of the busiest airports in India. About seven crore passengers travel through this airport every year. The airport administration is trying to increase this capacity to 13 crore in the next 6 to 8 years. According to an estimate, 25 percent of IGIA's passengers travel through transit travel, the need for air trains is also high for smooth transportation between Terminal 1 and Terminal 3/2. Experts say that it will not be easy to handle such a large number of passengers without air trains.
UDF Metro launched at Mumbai Airport
The use of air trains is free for passengers globally. At many places this charge is added to the parking and landing charges. UDF metro domestic passengers at Mumbai airport were charged Rs. 20 and Rs. 120 for international travel. This charge continued from 2016 to February 2023, but was discontinued after calculating the cost of metro connectivity.
