Maharashtra Government: The Maharashtra Cabinet on Monday approved leasing 2,000 sq m of land to veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane to develop a sports complex in Mumbai's Bandra area. The plot was allotted to Sunil Gavaskar in 1988 to set up an indoor training academy but he could not use it.

The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved the Revenue Department's proposal to hand over land to cricketer Rahane on a 30-year lease to develop state-of-the-art sports facilities, an official said.

The plot was earlier allotted to Gavaskar to develop an indoor cricket training academy. In the absence of development, the government repossessed the land. The plots are in a bad condition and slum dwellers are using them for unskilled work.

Big responsibility on Rahane

A big responsibility has come upon Rahane who has been out of Team India for a long time. The government has expressed confidence in him. The government was waiting for this work to be completed for a long time but Gavaskar could not fulfill this responsibility.
