Dengue: This time, due to heavy rains and waterlogging in many places, cases of mosquito-borne fever have increased. In such a situation, cases of dengue, malaria and chikungunya are being reported across the country. The most dangerous aspect of dengue fever is the low platelet count. This is a very dangerous condition. In dengue fever, due to the virus, the patient's platelets start decreasing rapidly, which can be fatal.

Let us know what are platelets and why they are important for us, actually platelets are the smallest cells present in the blood which can be seen only with the help of a microscope. They are colorless i.e. they have no color and they help in stopping bleeding in our body. They are also called thrombocytes. A healthy person's blood contains 1,50,000 to 4,50,000 platelets per microliter. Complete blood count (CBC) test is necessary to know the platelet count. Foods rich in vitamins B12 and C, folate and iron are eaten to increase platelet count.

These symptoms occur when platelets are low

Dengue is caused by the bite of Aedes mosquito. Its symptoms start appearing a few days after the mosquito bite. When a patient gets dengue, he gets high fever. Apart from this, the patient also has to face such problems.

– Severe headache

– Pain in muscles and joints

-Fatigue and weakness

– eye pain

– Rashes on the body

– Discomfort like mild bleeding marks

If you see these serious symptoms, go straight to the hospital

– Bleeding from nose and gums

– Acute abdominal pain

-Vomiting of blood

– Black stools or blood in urine

– Symptoms like small red-brown spots start appearing on the skin.

Thrombocytopenia problem

The condition of low platelets is called thrombocytopenia, which is a very dangerous condition that can even be life threatening. However, when dengue becomes severe, the platelet count starts getting affected on the third-fourth day. Which lasts for two-three days. But it starts improving on the eighth and ninth day.

These are some precautions that need to be taken

– If the platelets are low, the patient should be admitted to the hospital.

– Platelet count will be monitored with frequent blood tests.

– If the platelet count reaches 20 thousand then the patient may need platelet transfusion, otherwise the patient's life may be in danger.

– In such cases, delay may worsen the condition of the patient.

What to do to increase platelets?

– The patient should start eating platelet-increasing foods like papaya, pomegranate, kiwi, beetroot, spinach, giloy, coconut water and pumpkin. Apart from this, foods rich in vitamin B12, vitamin C, folate and iron should be fed. It is beneficial to eat foods rich in vitamin K such as banana, spinach, broccoli and sprouted grains. Give more liquids like lemonade, coconut water and buttermilk to dengue patients.

Monitor platelets frequently in dengue because low platelets can be life threatening. So do not let the platelets go down and take full care of the patient's diet.
