railway track: Incidents of tampering with railway tracks are not new but usually such incidents were carried out by mischievous elements, but now as incidents are coming to light one after the other, the possibility of terrorist elements being behind these incidents has become stronger. Terrorists can take the help of violent elements to fulfill their nefarious intentions.

The discovery of a gas cylinder on the railway track in Kanpur and the explosion under a train carrying army personnel near Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh cannot be a mere coincidence. These incidents are pointing towards a big conspiracy. There seems to be a conspiracy behind such incidents because many such incidents have happened before.

Recently, fish plates were removed from the railway track in Surat and an iron pillar was placed on the railway track in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh. It cannot be ignored that many such cases have come to light in Rajasthan, Maharashtra and some other states.

There have been many such cases in Kanpur where it appears that attempts were made to derail trains. According to an estimate, there have been about a dozen such incidents in the last one and a half months in which attempts were made to derail different trains.

It is true that the Railway Board has taken such incidents seriously and some cases are being investigated by the Railway Police as well as the local police and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), but it is not true that no case has been investigated till date. The bottom could not be reached.

If the reasons behind these incidents are not addressed soon, more mischievous elements may try to derail trains by tampering with the railway tracks.

Incidents of track tampering are not new, but usually they are carried out by mischievous elements, but now as incidents are coming to light one after the other, the suspicion of terrorists being behind these incidents is becoming stronger. There is also a suspicion that terrorists are taking the help of violent elements to fulfill their nefarious intentions. Whatever the case may be, the facts must come to the fore.

Safe running of trains will have to be given top priority as trains have been targeted by Naxals and terrorist organisations in the past. Security agencies will have to increase their vigilance and create an environment where mischievous elements or terrorists avoid considering trains as easy targets.

It is not a good thing that passenger trains are pelted with stones from time to time. Vande Bharat train has been targeted several times. Now that it has become clear that the threat to the security of trains is increasing, the railway police, local police and other security agencies as well as intelligence agencies will have to be extra vigilant.
