Israel Hezbollah War: There are terrible rocket attacks between Hezbollah and Israel. Missiles are being fired. Bombs are being thrown. Hezbollah's headquarters is in southern Lebanon. It shares its border with Israel. 600 Indian Army soldiers are deployed on this border. They have been deployed in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNFIL) mission.
How was the blue line formed?
Israel attacked Lebanon in 2000. Later the United Nations intervened in this matter and the war was stopped. The place from where the Israeli army returned. This place was taken over by the United Nations. This area is still under the control of the United Nations. UNIFIL was appointed to oversee the peacekeeping operation. At present UNIFIL is doing this work. It is about 120 kilometers long. Indian soldiers are deployed.
The conflict between Israel and Lebanon has escalated after the explosion of thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies. Hezbollah is planning a major attack. It is intermittently attacking Israel with its rockets, missiles and drones. The Israeli Defense Forces are carrying out air strikes. It destroyed several Hezbollah rocket launching stations. It has been claimed that 100 launchers were destroyed in this air strike, from which 1000 rockets were launched.
The United Nations established UNFIL in the year 2000. So that there is no provocation and conflict on the Blue Line from both the countries. UNFIL forces are stationed on this border. So that peace is maintained. There are soldiers from many other countries also in it. In fact, the Blue Line is not a border but a buffer zone.
UN peacekeepers patrol this buffer zone. Indian soldiers have been deployed on this border for decades. The Blue Line is actually the gateway to establish peace between the two countries. Where UN forces always try to establish peace. Indian soldiers are not directly involved in the conflict between the two countries.
Under UNFIL, the main job of Indian soldiers is to prevent any kind of violence from erupting in this buffer zone, but apart from this buffer zone, there is the sensitive area of Tyre and Sidon in Lebanon. Most of the population here is Shia. Iran always stands in its support. There are also thousands of Palestinian refugees here.
This area is a stronghold of Hezbollah. Hezbollah is not strong in some areas but its people are spread out. These people create problems for UNFIL. They work to disrupt peace. Therefore, the work of Indian soldiers included in the UN forces increases in the areas near the buffer zone. Responsibility increases.
Lebanon has a population of many religions. 67 percent are Muslims, which is divided into Shia and Sunni. Apart from this, 32 percent of the population is Christian, Druze, Jewish or some other minority community. Palestinian refugee camps are also important places, where most of the people are supporters of Hezbollah. They support them.
The UNFIL force is divided into two parts. East and West. Which have brigades. That means three to four battalions are deployed in both sectors. The Indian battalion is deployed near the Golan Heights in the eastern sector. Despite rocket attacks and air strikes, Indian soldiers are safe. The headquarters of UNFIL is in Nakora near the Blue Line.
UNFIL tries to prevent any kind of violence in this area. Indian soldiers are adept at this task. When Israel announces air strikes around the buffer zone, it informs UNFIL in advance. Other soldiers including Indian soldiers have been removed from there.
6000 Indian soldiers are deployed in various UN peace missions across the world. 159 Indian soldiers have been martyred in the last decade. The security of Indian soldiers is being taken care of in Israel.
