Panchayat Election Update: Another big information has come out regarding the Panchayat elections in Punjab. Earlier it was expected that the Panchayat elections would be announced on 23 September and voting could take place on 13 October.
But now new information has come to light that elections in the state are likely to be held on October 15 and the State Election Commission may announce elections in the state on September 25. The commission has finalized the preparations. The election code will come into force in the state as soon as the commission announces the elections.
The commission has issued a letter to the Deputy Commissioners yesterday and sought details of the notification of reservation of Sarpanchs. The State Election Commission had a virtual meeting with the Deputy Commissioners two days ago. Sources say that earlier the Panchayat elections were likely to be held on 13 or 18 October, but now it is likely to be held on 15 October.
According to the information, the work of reservation of Sarpanchs is going on at war footing in the districts and this process is likely to be completed by Monday evening. On the other hand, due to the fear of election code of conduct, development work in the villages has gained momentum. AAP MLAs and ministers are involved in the political process regarding reservation.
The Sarpanch aspirants are making rounds of MLAs and ministers. Immediately the block is being reserved as a unit and a new roster is being prepared. The roster being prepared for reserving the Sarpanch posts is based on the 2011 census. The elections will be held in two phases and in the first phase, the Gram Panchayats will be elected while in the second phase, the Panchayat Samitis and Zila Parishads will be elected.
