Congress MP Shashi Tharoor: The case of the death of a 26-year-old female employee of the well-known company Ernst & Young (EY) of Pune, Maharashtra has taken a political color. Many leaders have reacted to this matter saying that the girl died due to workload. Now senior Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor has reacted to this matter. He condoled the death of the 26-year-old employee and suggested reducing working hours and working five days a week.
'Should work 5 days a week'
Saddened by the death due to work pressure, Shashi Tharoor posted on the social media platform 'X' and wrote, 'I had a conversation with Sebastian Perale's father Sibi Joseph about the deceased. He died of a heart attack after working 14 hours continuously in the company and seven days of stressful work. Whether it is a private sector or a public sector, no one should work more than eight hours a day. I will also raise the issue of fixing working hours in Parliament in the next session.'
My daughter had to work till 12.30 pm: Sibi Joseph
Sibi Joseph, father of the deceased Sebastian Parayil, said, “My daughter had to work till 12.30 in the night. We advised her to quit, but she refused.” The deceased's father also claimed that the issue of excessive work pressure in the company was raised with the authorities, but no action was taken.

It is worth noting that 26-year-old Ana Sebastian Parayil started working in EY company in Pune, Maharashtra in March 2024. She was a resident of Kerala. She passed away on 20 July. Ana's mother Anita Augustine has written a letter to EY's India head Rajiv Memani and made serious allegations on the work culture of the company.
