New Delhi, 21 September (HS). Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court has postponed the hearing on the sentence of Aam Aadmi Party's MLA from Deoli Prakash Jarwal, who was convicted in the doctor suicide case. Special Judge Kaveri Baveja ordered the next hearing on 30 September. On Saturday, Prakash Jarwal sought permission to present some evidence in this case. After that, the court said to file an appropriate application on this. Harish Jarwal, an accused in this case, has filed a petition in the High Court challenging the trial court's order of conviction.
It is noteworthy that on July 9, the Legal Aid Authority had filed a report in the court regarding the assessment of the payment capacity of the accused and the impact on the victim. Earlier on May 18, an affidavit was filed by the Delhi Police giving details of the expenses incurred by the prosecution in pleading the case. The court had convicted all three accused on February 28. The court had convicted Prakash Jarwal and Kapil Nagar under sections 306, 34, 120B, 386, 506 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code. Harish Kumar Jarwal was also convicted under section 506 of the Indian Penal Code. In this case, the court acquitted Harish Jarwal of the charges of sections 306 and 386 while ordered to frame charges under section 506.
On August 28, 2021, Delhi Police filed a supplementary chargesheet against three accused including Prakash Jarwal. Apart from Prakash Jarwal, Kapil Nagar and Harish Kumar Jarwal were made accused in this case. It is noteworthy that on April 18, 2020, Dr. Rajendra Singh committed suicide by hanging himself in his house. The police recovered a two-page suicide note from the doctor's house. Prakash Jarwal and Kapil Nagar were held responsible in it. The police also recovered a diary, in which it was said that the doctor used to run some water tankers in the Jal Board. In the diary, Prakash Jarwal was accused of demanding money for those tankers.
