Dhaka: (Bangladesh violence) Shocking figures have emerged about how many minority people died and how many were injured in the Bangladesh violence. On Thursday, a minority organization of Bangladesh said that at least 9 minorities were killed and 69 places of worship were vandalized in more than two thousand incidents of communal violence in Bangladesh between 4 and 20 August.

Total incidents of communal violence

Nirmal Rozario, leader of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Council, called for an independent and impartial investigation into the communal violence under the supervision of the United Nations. Nirmal Rozario said that between August 4 and 20, a total of 2,010 incidents of communal violence took place in 68 of the 76 districts and metropolitan cities across the country, in which 9 minorities lost their lives.

1705 families were directly affected by the violence

Giving details of the communal violence during the political upheaval that ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Nirmal said 1,705 families were directly affected by the violence. Of these, the houses of 157 families were attacked. Not only this, these houses were looted and vandalised and then set on fire.

Four women were raped

Some of their businesses were also looted, their offices were vandalised and then set on fire, he said at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters Unity. Nirmal said these families are now living in very poor conditions. He said the most violence took place in Khullan Division, where four women were raped.

The army received magisterial powers

They also announced nationwide protests and rallies across the country, including in Dhaka on Saturday, to press for their demands. Meanwhile, Bangladesh's interim government on Tuesday granted magistrate powers to the army for two months to restore law and order and curb subversive activities in the violence-hit country.
