Today's music revolves around weapons, love and drugs. The display of weapons, violence, murder, alcohol, wrong words, bullying in songs is not only misleading the young generation but also inciting them to follow the wrong path. There is no exaggeration that our Punjabi culture is getting destroyed as fast as that of any other state. Today, instead of Manak, Yamle ki Tubbi, singers have taken up weapons. It seems as if no song can be a hit without weapons, drugs, beatings. Even today, songs of Pali Detwalia, Kuldeep Manak, Gurdas Maan, Surjit Bindrakhia, Harbhajan Maan, Hans Raj Hans and many other singers are heard with great pride.
Changes in values
Today Punjabi cultural values are changing, for which singing can be blamed because every song shows a weapon in one hand and a bottle of alcohol in the other. It seems that without this the song would not have become a hit. Today the purpose of singing is to earn as much money as possible and get cheap fame by serving laxity, but such songs do not last long. Today's generation considers such singers as their idol and does the same as they see in the songs, which boosts their morale. Violence is increasing day by day in the society. No one can say what the result will be.
We are all running away from responsibility
Sadly, no one is paying attention. Everyone is adopting a 'what can I do' attitude and running away from their due responsibility. Famous scientist Albert Einstein says that 'the world will be destroyed not by the wicked but by those who keep watching the wicked without doing anything.' Today, listening to such a song, a painful pang arises in the heart and one feels mental pain.
Patience is running out
Tolerance is already vanishing from the society. Interest in education is decreasing among the youth, the feeling of vandalism is increasing among them, which does not know in which direction Punjab will be taken. The youth moving forward in this direction is a matter of concern.
Prefer to keep weapons instead of books
It is said that if you want to destroy a country or a family, then take the youth on the wrong path. It seems that the same is happening in our Punjab. The bravery of Punjabis is saluted not only in the country but in the whole world because they accept the troubles that come their way and face them bravely. Songs were sung earlier too. The whole family used to sit together and listen to them.
Those songs are hits till date, then why has such a situation arisen today that our songs are making the youth prefer to take up arms instead of books. A child is like a blank slate, he will try to behave according to whatever he hears and sees from childhood.
Clean singing should be given priority
Therefore, singer-lyricists should write or sing such songs that guide the youth. Women's respect should be kept in mind in the songs. We all have to fight together to stop the singing that destroys the dignity of Punjabis, so that we can save the high values of the rich Punjabi heritage. We have to give degrees, not pistols, in the hands of the youth. •
