Jaskirat Kaur, also known as Jasmine Kang, appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court charged with the murder of Shay Kang, who was described as a talented child during her school tribute. West Midlands Police said the girl was found with injuries at an address in Rowley Regis on Monday and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Inspector Dan Jarrett, of West Midlands Police, said: “Our thoughts are with Shay's family and friends. His tragic death has had a deep impact on those who knew him, as well as the wider community. We request that he be left to grieve privately while our inquiries continue.

“The community is shocked by what happened and we will continue to have a police presence in the area and provide our support over the coming days,” he said.

Kaur was arrested on Monday from the residential property where her daughter's body was found. Robin Close's property has been cordoned off and a post mortem will take place in due course to determine the cause of death.

“At this stage we are not looking for anyone else as part of the investigation,” police said at the time. Police said at the time.

Shay was a bright, happy, fun-loving child who was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed. Schools are the heart of the community and we have started working with our children and staff following this news.

Tributes including toys, cards and balloons have since been placed near the police cordon on Robin Close in the town of Rolle Regis, where the schoolgirl lived with her mother. Some parents of children attending the same school have also set up an online Go Fund Me fundraiser to raise money for Shay's funeral, which has raised over GBP 3,800 so far.

It is written in the fundraiser – As you may know, he had no family except his mother. The aim is to come together as a community to raise funds for their funeral and help with flowers, headstones etc.

She didn't deserve this at all and the best we can do is make sure she flies high in the most beautiful way possible.
