KVIC gives gift to lakhs of Khadi artisans on PM Modi's birthday; 25 percent increase in remuneration of charkha spinners – News India Live | News India

Khadi India: Manoj Kumar, Chairman, Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, gave a big gift to lakhs of Khadi artisans at an event organized at Asmavati Riverfront, Porbandar, the birthplace of revered Bapu, on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday and completion of 100 days of Modi Government 3.0.

A 25 percent increase in the wages of spinners and 7 percent increase in the wages of weavers has been announced. The increased wages will be applicable from 2 October 2024, the birthday of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.

'Commemorative Charkha' launched
On this occasion, a 26 feet long and 13 feet wide stainless steel 'Memorial Charkha' installed on the Asmavati river bank was also launched. During the event, KVIC Chairman also launched the distribution of margin money subsidy of Rs 101 crore into the accounts of 3911 beneficiaries and 1100 new PMEGP units under Pradhan Mantri Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) through video conferencing.

Addressing the program, Manoj Kumar said that the remuneration of weavers and weavers Rs 10 per loom space It has been increased for the second time. From October 2, 2024, Catino will get a remuneration of Rs 12.50 per aunt instead of Rs 10. Earlier on April 1, 2023, it was increased by Rs 7.50 to Rs 10 per aunt.

He further said that the 'Khadi Revolution' under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought a big change in the lives of spinners and weavers. Khadi business has crossed Rs 1.55 lakh crore in the last financial year. In line with the vision of the Prime Minister, the Commission has decided to increase the remuneration to benefit the artisans of the Khadi family.

There are about 3000 registered Khadi establishments across the country, which provide employment to 4.98 lakh Khadi artisans, of which about 80 percent are women. The increased remuneration will give them new economic strength. So far, wages have been increased by about 213 percent under the Modi government.

Margin money worth Rs 101 crore distributed to the accounts of 3911 beneficiaries
During this program, margin money (subsidy) of Rs 101 crore was also distributed in the accounts of 3911 beneficiaries across the country under PMEGP. This created 43,021 new jobs. Along with this, the Chairman of KVIC also inaugurated 1100 new PMEGP units established across the country.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and guidance of the Ministry of MSME, PMEGP has emerged as a new force and energy for the cottage industry of the country. It has provided employment to 83.48 lakh people through 9.58 lakh new projects in the last 10 years.

During this period, KVIC has distributed margin money worth about Rs 24 thousand crore. He further said that 10.17 lakh new jobs have been created through Khadi and Village Industries in the last financial year. Representatives of Khadi organizations affiliated to KVIC State Office Gujarat, Khadi workers and artisans and officers and employees of KVIC participated in the program.
