Johannesburg, September 19 (HS). Renowned Welsh auctioneer Richard Madeley has been appointed to conduct the players' auction in the SA 20 League, which is scheduled to be held here on October 1. Madeley has gained fame for his role as an auctioneer in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“SA20 is thrilled to announce the return of renowned auctioneer Richard ‘The Hammerman’ Madeley for the Season 3 Player Auction taking place in Cape Town on October 1,” the SA20 media release said.
Madeley's experience and distinctive style will once again be at the centre as teams finalise their squads ahead of South Africa's premier T20 cricket league starting on January 9, 2025.
After leading the famous Indian Premier League (IPL) player auction for a decade, Madley is excited to be back for his thirteenth player auction.
“I am thrilled to be taking charge of the SA20 Season 3 Player Auction,” Madeley said, according to the SA20 media release.
“I have fond memories of the 10-hour marathon auction that took place in the first session, so it's great to be in charge of proceedings. There are some fantastic local and international players who have put their names in this auction, I expect there will be some competitive bidding as teams finalise their squads,” he added.
There has been massive interest from local and international players following the auction registration period that ended last Friday, with the final list of players to be released on September 25.
According to the SA20 media release, league commissioner Graeme Smith said, “We are thrilled to have Richard back for the SA20 Season 3 auction.” Smith added, “His passion and professional attitude brings extra excitement to the auction process, and we look forward to seeing the auction take place on October 1.”
