Mukesh Ahlawat, who is going to join the Atishi cabinet, is an Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Sultanpur Majra. Mukesh is one of the prominent Dalit leader faces of the Aam Aadmi Party. Four out of the five names included in the Atishi cabinet have been ministers before. Mukesh Ahlawat is being made a minister for the first time because the assembly elections in Delhi are near and the party wants to try a new face.
Mukesh became MLA for the first time in 2020
In the year 2020, Mukesh Ahlawat contested the election from Sultanpur Majra for the first time from Aam Aadmi Party and became MLA. Mukesh Ahlawat is an important Dalit face of the North West region. After the resignation of Rajendra Pal Gautam and Rajkumar Anand, the post of a Dalit minister in the cabinet also became vacant. During the Lok Sabha elections, his name was also in discussion as a candidate from North West Delhi. However, due to the alliance, this seat went to the account of Congress.
The term of the current assembly in Delhi is till February 2025. After this, elections can be held in Delhi anytime. After the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal, Atishi was elected the leader of the legislative party. In the meeting of the MLAs, all the MLAs of Aam Aadmi Party agreed on the name of Atishi. After this, Atishi claimed to form the government against the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi VK Saxena.
