Offering, offering and dedication are the basic foundations of Indian culture. Whatever we are is because of the blessings of our parents and ancestors. That is why Pitru Paksha (Shraddha) which started on September 18 is a divine festival of self-existence and connecting with the roots and paying respect to our ancestors. Pitru is pleased to see the happiness of the family.
Therefore, one should remain happy and do charity during Pitru Paksha. 'Sharadaya Idam Shraddham…' (Whatever is done with devotion is Shraddha.) Shraddha is the independent work done regularly with affection, humble respect and devotion towards one's ancestors. This is a simple and easy way to get rid of debt. It is also called Pitru Paksha.
In Indian scriptures, Pitra-Rin is considered to be the greatest. Apart from father, Pitra Rin includes mother and all the elders who helped us in moving forward and developing life. We call them Pitar in local language. The process of Shradh and Tarpan takes place on the banks of Ganga or at pilgrimage sites. They are found at Brahmakapal, Meghankar, Lohagar, Siddhnath, Prayag, Pindarka, Laxmanban and Gaya or other places on the banks of Ganga.
The sages named a part of the year as Pitru Paksha, in which we pay tribute to our ancestors by performing special rituals for their Shradh, Tarpan and Mukti. This is the Shradh method. Tarpan, Pind, Daan etc. done with devotion for the dead person is 'Shradh'. It is believed that in Shradh Paksha, the ancestors come to earth to be satisfied.
Shraddha is a symbol of true devotion towards ancestors. According to Hindu religion, it is our duty to bow down to our parents and ancestors at the beginning of every auspicious work. It is said in the scriptures that a householder who donates pind to ancestors gets longevity, prosperous family, success, heaven, strength, Lakshmi, comfort and wealth etc.
