Bengaluru water crisis: Bengaluru, known as the Silicon Valley of India, has been facing a severe water crisis for the past few weeks and residents of the city have expressed deep concern as the summer season approaches. As the water crisis deepens, calls for government intervention have intensified, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable solutions to address growing water scarcity in the tech hub. Even some residents of the city have expressed concerns about potential health risks in the upcoming hot weather.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya warned that a protest would be held in front of Vidhana Soudha if Karnataka's Congress government failed to resolve the drinking water crisis in Bengaluru soon.
After the meeting with Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) chairman Ram Prasad Manohar, Surya said that if the water problem is not resolved within a week, the Karnataka BJP leader will lead a protest at Vidhana Soudha
“The government, despite being aware of the situation it was facing, failed to take precautionary measures. As a result of this negligence, the people of Bengaluru are facing this serious water crisis today,” he said in a statement. “This shows gross negligence of the decision makers and their irresponsibility towards Bengaluru.”
“If these measures are not taken within a week, the BJP will lead a protest in front of the Vidhan Sabha and demand the government to respond to the immediate needs of the people,” Surya said.
He criticized the Siddaramaiah government for attempting to address the issue “in an unscientific manner”, and also made suggestions to the BWSSB for a quick resolution of the issue.
“1) Treated water should be made available for non-potable use to bulk users like industries and construction sector.
“2) Drinking water should be redistributed to places where there is stress.
“3) About 1,300 MLD of the available treated water should be diverted to the lakes to recharge the aquifers.
“4) Geologists should be consulted at locations where new borewells can be dug.
“5) On a war footing, re-dig/flush existing borewells where yield decline has been observed in the last few months.
“6) Instead of disrupting the existing contracted water tanker supply, water distribution should be done by efficiently managing other water tankers.
“7) Cauvery Phase-5 should be completed at the earliest through which water availability in the proposed areas can be addressed.”
About 10 days ago also, Surya had highlighted the increasing water scarcity in the city and urged the government to work with citizens to solve the problem.
